What collision repair includes

Collision repair is the full sequence of returning a damaged vehicle to the condition it was in before the impact: documented damage assessment, structural and frame correction, body panel repair or replacement, refinishing to the factory colour, reassembly, driver-assist calibration where the vehicle has it, and a final quality check. It is not the same as cosmetic detailing — the structure comes first, because panel gaps, door closures and sensor aim all depend on it.

If the damage is limited to a dent with the factory paint intact, the right answer may be paintless dent repair rather than a full refinish. If a bumper cover absorbed the hit, bumper repair or replacement is usually the shorter path. The assessment decides which.

Frontline's collision repair process

The repair runs in a fixed order. Each stage below is a heading you can hold us to when you ask where your vehicle is.

Damage assessment

The vehicle is photographed and documented panel by panel, with a teardown where needed, so hidden structural or suspension damage is on the estimate before work starts — not discovered later.

Structural & frame repair

Frame and unibody damage is pulled and measured back toward factory specification before any cosmetic work begins, because panels and gaps cannot line up on a structure that is still out of tolerance.

Body repair

Panels are repaired or replaced, dents are worked out, and bumpers, brackets and mounting points are restored so the body closes, seals and aligns the way it did before the collision.

Paint & refinish

Colour is matched to the vehicle's paint code, sealed and clear-coated in the booth, then blended into adjacent panels so the repair is not visible in daylight.

OEM repair procedures

Repairs follow the manufacturer's published repair procedures for the vehicle — sectioning points, adhesives, torque values and welding methods — because a modern body is engineered to deform in a specific way.

ADAS calibration

Vehicles with cameras, radar or driver-assist sensors are calibrated after repair, since replacing a windshield, bumper or mirror moves the sensor and the system has to be re-aimed to read the road correctly.

Insurance assistance

Frontline works with all major insurance carriers. We write and submit the estimate, file supplements when teardown reveals damage the first estimate could not see, and can bill the carrier directly. In New York you choose the repair shop — your insurer can recommend one, but the choice is yours.

Collision repair questions

What does collision repair include?
Collision repair covers the full sequence of restoring a damaged vehicle: a documented damage assessment, disassembly, structural and frame or unibody straightening, panel and body repair or replacement, refinishing to match the factory colour, reassembly, ADAS calibration where the vehicle requires it, and a final quality check before the car is returned.
How does the collision repair process work at Frontline Automotive?
You bring the vehicle to 1903 Broadway (or we tow it in), we photograph and document the damage and write an estimate, we coordinate the estimate and any supplements with your insurance carrier, then repair runs in order — structure first, then body, then paint and refinish, then reassembly, calibration and quality check.
Can Frontline help with my insurance claim?
Yes. Frontline works with all major carriers, writes and submits the estimate, handles supplements when hidden damage is found during teardown, and can bill the carrier directly. You choose the shop — an insurer can recommend one, but the decision is yours.
Where is Frontline Automotive located?
Frontline Automotive is at 1903 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11207, on the Bushwick / Bed-Stuy side of Broadway near the Brooklyn–Queens border. Front desk: (718) 672-7152.
How long can collision repair take?
It depends on the damage, parts availability and how quickly the insurer approves the estimate and any supplements — a bumper or single-panel repair is far shorter than structural work. Call (718) 672-7152 or send photos and we will give you a timeline for your specific vehicle rather than a generic estimate.
Do you handle electric and hybrid vehicles?
Yes. Frontline repairs electric and hybrid vehicles, including Teslas — see the EV collision repair and Tesla collision repair pages for how high-voltage vehicles are handled.
Can you tow my car after an accident?
Yes. Frontline runs its own towing operation (Frontline Towing, DOT #4518579) 24 hours a day across all five boroughs. Emergency / tow line: (646) 315-3460.
