Auto Body Repair in Brooklyn

Frontline Automotive repairs bumpers, dents, fenders, doors, quarter panels, scratches and body panels at 1903 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11207, then refinishes the repair to your vehicle's paint code so it disappears into the panel next to it. Panel-level work is what this page covers — if the vehicle was in an accident and the structure moved, start with collision repair instead.

What auto body repair covers

Auto body repair is work on the vehicle's skin: the bolted and welded outer panels and the finish on them. That covers a scuffed bumper, a door ding, a creased fender, a dented door, a damaged quarter panel, a scratch through the clear coat, and any body panel that has to be repaired or replaced outright.

Every one of those repairs ends the same way — the panel has to line up with the panels around it, and the colour has to match. Alignment is why we check gaps and closures before paint, and colour is why we blend into the adjacent panel instead of stopping at the seam. The refinishing process is the same one used on full collision work.

Panel repairs we handle

Each of these is a different job with a different decision behind it — repair or replace, refinish or keep the factory paint.

Bumper repair

Scuffs, cracks and broken tabs in bumper covers. Plastic bumpers can often be repaired and refinished; covers with damaged absorbers, mounts or embedded parking sensors and radar are replaced so everything sits at the correct depth.

Dent repair

Door dings, hail dents, shopping-cart hits and creases. With the factory paint intact the dent is pushed out from behind and the original finish is kept; broken paint or stretched metal means conventional repair and refinish.

Paintless dent repair in Brooklyn

Fender repair

Front fenders take curb strikes, wheel-arch damage and rust along the lip. Bolt-on fenders can be repaired or swapped; either way the arch has to line up with the door and hood before the panel is refinished.

Door repair

Dented skins, damaged edges, dropped or misaligned doors and side-impact damage. The door has to close, seal and sit flush with the panels around it — a door that looks right but seals wrong will leak and whistle at speed.

Quarter panel repair

Rear quarter panels are welded into the body rather than bolted on, so damage is repaired or sectioned and welded at the manufacturer's joint locations, then filled, sealed and blended into the roof and door.

Scratch repair

Light clear-coat scratches can be polished out. Anything down to primer or bare metal needs to be filled, primed, sealed and refinished, then blended into the adjacent panel so the repair does not read as a patch in daylight.

Body panel repair & replacement

Hoods, trunk lids, rocker panels, roof skins and bed sides. The decision is repair versus replace on each panel, and it comes down to how far the metal is stretched, whether the panel is bonded or welded, and part availability.

Repair or replace?

A panel is repaired when the metal or plastic can be brought back to shape without being over-worked, and replaced when it cannot — torn metal, stretched or heavily creased panels, perforated rust, or damaged mounting points. Bolt-on panels like fenders, doors, hoods and bumper covers are straightforward to swap. Welded panels like quarter panels and rocker panels are sectioned at the manufacturer's joint locations instead.

We walk you through that decision on your vehicle before work starts, so the estimate reflects the actual repair rather than a guess.

Matching the paint

Colour is mixed to the vehicle's paint code, then adjusted for how the existing finish has aged, sprayed in the booth and blended into the neighbouring panels. Metallics and pearls are the fussiest, because the flake has to lay the same way it does on the panel beside it.

Keeping the factory paint is always the best match, which is why paintless dent repair is the first thing we check for on an undamaged finish.

Panel construction differs by manufacturer — aluminium hoods and fenders, bonded panels, high-strength steel — and it changes how a panel is repaired.

Auto body repair questions

What is auto body repair?
Auto body repair is the repair or replacement of a vehicle's outer panels and the finish on them — bumpers, fenders, doors, quarter panels, hoods and trunk lids — along with the dents, creases and scratches in those panels. It is panel-level work. When the impact also moved the structure under the panels, that is collision repair and it starts with structural measurement first.
What is the difference between auto body repair and collision repair?
Auto body repair addresses the panel and the paint on it. Collision repair is the whole accident sequence: structural and frame correction, panel work, refinishing, driver-assist calibration and the insurance claim around it. A parking-lot dent or scuffed bumper is usually body repair; a vehicle that took a real hit is routed through the collision repair process.
Can a dent be repaired without repainting the panel?
Yes, when the factory paint is unbroken and the metal is not stretched or creased over an edge. That is paintless dent repair, and it keeps the original finish, which is the best possible colour match. Once the paint is cracked or the panel is torn, the dent has to be worked conventionally and the panel refinished.
Do you repair or replace a damaged bumper?
Both, depending on the damage. A scuffed or cracked bumper cover can often be repaired, plastic-welded and refinished for less than a new cover. Broken mounting tabs, damaged absorbers or a bumper carrying parking sensors and radar are usually replaced so the mounts and sensors sit where the manufacturer intended.
Can you repair a rusted fender or quarter panel?
Rust has to be cut out or the repair will come back through the new paint. Surface rust can be stripped, treated and refinished; perforated metal needs the affected section replaced. A quarter panel is welded to the body rather than bolted on, so it is sectioned and welded, not unbolted — bring it in and we will tell you which case yours is.
How much does auto body repair cost in Brooklyn?
It depends on the panel, whether the panel is repaired or replaced, and how many adjacent panels have to be blended for the colour to match. Estimates at Frontline are free — call (718) 672-7152 or send photos of the damage through the contact form and we will price your specific repair rather than quote a generic range.
