What happened
The X3 came into our Broadway shop with impact damage concentrated on the rear quarter panel and tailgate area.
Damage assessment
At intake the rear quarter panel was dented and scraped, with the damage carrying into the adjacent tailgate area.

Can a dented rear quarter panel be repaired instead of replaced?
It depends on how far the metal has been stretched. On this X3 the quarter panel was straightened with metalwork rather than cut out, and replacement parts were only used where a panel could not be brought back to shape.
Will the new paint match the rest of the car?
The repaired area is refinished and then blended into the neighbouring panels so the transition is not visible in daylight. You can see the finished result in the before and after photos above.
