What to do after an accident

Move the vehicle to safety, check for injuries, call 911 if anyone is hurt, exchange driver and insurance information, photograph the damage and scene, notify your insurer, and then call Frontline to arrange the inspection and tow. Those steps protect your safety, create the record your carrier needs, and get the repair moving faster.

In New York, you are not required to use the body shop your insurance company suggests. You may choose any licensed collision repair shop. Frontline is an independent shop at 1903 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11207, and we communicate with your insurer directly so you are not chasing adjusters yourself.

The insurance collision repair process, step-by-step

Every claim follows the same sequence. You can hand us the claim number and let us run it, or stay involved at any stage.

01

What to do after an accident

Move to safety, check for injuries and call 911 if needed. Exchange driver and insurance information, photograph the scene and damage, and notify your insurer to open a claim.

02

Contact Frontline

Call the front desk at (718) 672-7152 or the emergency / tow line at (646) 315-3460. We dispatch a truck, start a claim file, and tell you what documents to bring or send.

03

Damage inspection

A technician inspects the vehicle at 1903 Broadway and documents every point of impact. We photograph the damage and, when needed, perform a controlled teardown to find hidden structural or mechanical problems.

04

Estimate

We write an itemized repair estimate using industry-standard estimating software, based on factory repair procedures and the parts the job needs. The estimate is submitted to you and to your insurer.

05

Insurance communication

We speak with the adjuster on your behalf, answer technical questions, provide documentation, and work to keep the estimate aligned with what the vehicle needs to be returned to pre-accident condition.

06

Supplements

If disassembly reveals damage that was not visible during the initial estimate, we file a supplement — an updated estimate with photos and supporting notes — and follow it through adjuster approval.

07

Repair authorization

Once the estimate and any supplements are approved, we review the repair plan with you, explain the parts and timeline, and get your written authorization before any structural or major repair work begins.

08

Repair

Work runs in order: structural and frame correction first, then body panel repair or replacement, then refinishing, reassembly, and any ADAS calibration the vehicle requires. Every stage is documented in the file.

09

Quality control

Before delivery, the repair is checked for panel gaps, door and hood closure, sensor function, paint match, cleanliness and alignment. Any issue is corrected before the vehicle is released.

10

Delivery

You receive the final invoice, a summary of the work performed, and the vehicle back in the condition it was in before the accident. If a rental is covered by your policy, we coordinate the return timing.

Your right to choose your repair shop

New York State law gives you the right to choose the licensed collision repair shop that fixes your vehicle. Your insurer may recommend a shop, but it cannot require you to use it. Your carrier must still pay for covered repairs at the shop you choose.

Frontline Automotive is an independent auto body shop. We are not owned by, affiliated with, or part of any insurance company's Direct Repair Program (DRP).

Can my insurance company choose my body shop in NY?

Verified insurer relationship status

Any statement that Frontline is a preferred shop, approved by, direct repair facility, partner, certified by, or network shop of a specific insurance company requires verified business documentation before it can be published.

Carriers

We assist customers insured by major carriers

As an independent collision repair shop in Brooklyn, we communicate with every major carrier and many regional insurers on behalf of our customers. We are not part of any insurer's Direct Repair Program, and we do not represent the insurance company — we represent you.

Logos of the insurance carriers Frontline Automotive helps customers file collision claims with, including GEICO, Progressive, State Farm, Allstate, Liberty Mutual, Travelers, Nationwide, Farmers and USAA

If you do not see your carrier listed, call us anyway — we handle the claim workflow for nearly every auto insurer that writes policies in New York.

Parts Quality

OEM vs aftermarket parts

OEM parts are made by or for your vehicle's manufacturer and match the original fit, finish, corrosion protection and crash performance. Aftermarket parts are produced by third parties and vary in quality.

We recommend OEM parts for safety-critical items such as airbags, sensors, radar brackets, structural panels and glass. What your policy must cover depends on its terms and New York law; we explain your options in writing.

Timeline

How long the repair can take

  • Minor damage — bumper, scratches, small dents, single-panel paint: often a few business days once approved.
  • Moderate collision — multi-panel, lights, cooling, minor structural: commonly one to two weeks.
  • Heavy collision — frame/unibody, airbags, ADAS calibration: can take several weeks, depending on parts and insurer approvals.

We provide a written timeline once the final estimate and any supplements are approved.

FAQ

Insurance & collision claim questions

What should I do after a car accident in Brooklyn?+

First, move to a safe location and call 911 if anyone is injured. Exchange information with the other driver, photograph the scene and damage, notify your insurance company, and then call Frontline at (718) 672-7152. We arrange towing, start the damage inspection, and walk you through the claim from the first call to delivery.

Do I have to use the repair shop my insurance company recommends?+

No. Under New York State law, you have the right to choose any licensed collision repair shop. Your insurer may suggest a shop, but they cannot require you to use it. Frontline is an independent auto body shop and communicates directly with your carrier on your behalf.

Does Frontline work with my insurance company?+

We regularly assist customers insured by GEICO, Progressive, State Farm, Allstate, Liberty Mutual, Travelers, Nationwide, Farmers, USAA, Erie, Amica, Mercury, The Hartford, Chubb, MAPFRE, Hanover, Plymouth Rock, NJM, Safety, Kemper, National General, Encompass and other carriers. We file claims, submit estimates, handle supplements and coordinate billing with the adjuster.

What is a supplement, and will Frontline handle it?+

A supplement is an additional estimate submitted to your insurance company when hidden damage is found after disassembly. Supplements are common in collision repair. We document the extra damage with photos and factory repair procedures, then submit the supplement directly to the adjuster.

Will my rates go up because I chose Frontline?+

The repair shop you choose does not affect your premium. Premium changes are determined by your insurer based on the accident, fault and your policy — not by which body shop performs the work.

Can you tow my car from the accident scene?+

Yes. Frontline runs its own towing operation — Frontline Towing, DOT #4518579 — 24 hours a day across Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island and Long Island. The emergency / tow line is (646) 315-3460.

How long does an insurance collision repair take?+

Timelines depend on damage severity, parts availability and how quickly the insurer approves the estimate and any supplements. A single-panel repair may take a few business days; a moderate collision often takes one to two weeks; heavy structural work can take longer. We provide a written timeline once the final estimate is approved.

Will my car be repaired with original factory parts?+

We recommend OEM parts for safety-critical components such as airbags, sensors, radar brackets, structural panels and glass. What your insurer must pay for depends on your policy language and state law. We explain the trade-offs in writing and, when appropriate, negotiate for OEM coverage.

Been involved in a few car accidents, but always as a passenger. Last month, it finally happened when I was the driver. I go to Google and look for the best-rated body shop and find Frontline Automotive in my area. Immediately, Alex helped take care of me and assisted with filing my insurance claim. Along the way, his business partner Ali would pick up my calls and give me status updates on the damage done to my car. Throughout the entire process, they were very helpful, and even when the shop got backed up and I wouldn’t get my car in the timeliest of manners, Ali was kind enough to work with me on how much I would pay for the services. They helped to restore my left side bottom trim and even as a courtesy restored the paint on my car, so it looks brand new. Go to Frontline! The five-star reviews are telling the truth, and everyone who works here is really nice and will help take care of you

Ali and the team at Frontline went above and beyond for me. My car was hit while parked and the event happened to coincide with some other really rough life events. Ali was extremely kind and caring, he made sure to keep me up to date on all the insurance stuff and repairs. He was also great about answering all the random questions I had along the way. I highly recommend taking your vehicle to Frontline Automotive, you can't go wrong with them.
